Betty Snell

THEBES, Ill. -- Betty Jean Snell, 78, of Thebes died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.

She was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Thebes, to Oscar "Doc" and Nellie Jackson Thompson. She and Robert B. "Goober" Snell were married Feb. 9, 1948. He preceded her in death April 7, 2004.

Snell was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Olive Branch and the Kozy Korner Gang.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice (Tim) Parker, Charlotte (Ron) Woolf, Beverly (Charles) Northcutt; three grandchildren, Michael Honey, Eric Hill, Kara (Trevor) Foeste; two great-grandchildren, T.J. Foeste and Jolie Hill; two brothers-in-law, Raymond (Ann) Snell and Lloyd Eugene (Rose) Snell; nieces and nephews, including Jo Catherine McNelly Smith, who was as close as a sister; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Carey Lee Snell in 1976; four sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Curt Alderson officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes, with the Rev. Scott Kelley officiating.
