ORAN, Mo. -- Betty Lou Metz, 87, of Oran passed away peacefully, with family members by her side, Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Cape Girardeau at the old Saint Francis Hospital to the late Emil and Norma Heisserer.
She attended Jefferson Elementary School and graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School.
Betty later married Clifford Metz, the love of her life, Nov. 20, 1966, moving to Oran where she and Clifford lived for the next 52 years.
Betty was an accredited record technician (ART), working for Saint Francis Hospital for 30 years and later Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri, for 14 years, where she later retired.
She was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, where she was also a member of the St. Anne's Sodality Ladies Organization. Betty was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Morley, Missouri. Betty was a loving, gentle person who cared deeply for her family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed family times together. She was also a wonderful cook, collecting many recipes and cookbooks over the years. Her favorite hobby was to organize her many photos into albums. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by three sisters, Judy Meinz (Walter Dean) and Patsy Timmerman, both of Cape Girardeau, and Dixie L. Pikey of Creve Coeur, Missouri; and a brother, Billy R. (Betty) Heisserer of Jackson. Betty deeply cared for and was always interested in her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew.
Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Oran. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Guardian Angel Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Oran.
