Betty Ann Meier, 86, of Jackson passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Jackson, daughter of the late Leonard E. and Edna M. Birk Grossheider. She was married to Joe Wilson Smith on Dec. 8, 1945. She later married H. Roy Meier on April 3, 1971. He passed away May 5, 2005...

Betty Ann Meier, 86, of Jackson passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Jackson, daughter of the late Leonard E. and Edna M. Birk Grossheider. She was married to Joe Wilson Smith on Dec. 8, 1945. She later married H. Roy Meier on April 3, 1971. He passed away May 5, 2005.

Betty graduated from Jackson High School in 1945 and was employed by B&H Auto Supply in Cape Girardeau, Pearl Motor Co. in Anna, Ill., and Brennecke Chevrolet in Jackson. She was also active in Meier Angus Farms, doing the bookkeeping for the farm and Meier Subdivisions. She sold many of the lots on the subdivisions of Meier Lake Estates, Meier Meadows and Indian Springs Estates.

Betty was a confirmed member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and a member and vice president of the Concordia Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 158 and the American Angus Association.

She is survived by a son, Jory Len Smith of Jackson; three daughters, Robin Meier McQuay and Karen Meier (Ron) Huffman of Jackson and Beth Annette (Robert) Armstrong of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rose McQuay, William Angus Huffman and Haley Elizabeth, Jessica René, Laura Leigh and Andrew Robert Armstrong; three stepgrandchildren, Shaelyne McQuay Meadows and Cory and Samantha Woods; and five great-stepgrandchildren, Joshua Woods, Logan Mae and Carson Michael J. Tidwell and Liam and Jovie Meadows.

Also surviving is a sister, Marilyn Ruth "Snook" Priest and her loving family, Pamela Whaley, Paula Kurre, Para Snyder and their families.

She was preceded in death by two nieces, Pat Agnew and Penny Leirer and an infant grandson, Matthew Scott Armstrong.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran School.
