BETTY JOHNSON

Funeral service for Betty May Johnson of Evansville, Ind., was held Monday at Alexander East Chapel in Evansville. The Rev. Donald Moore officiated, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville.

Johnson, 70, died Thursday, April 25, 1996, at Newburgh Healthcare Center in Newburgh, Ind.

She was born May 31, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Ed and Vesta Schlegel. She and Larry C. Johnson were married 52 years.

Johnson was a proofreader at the Southeast Missourian Newspaper for six years. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Shirley Phillips of Newburgh; a son, Kevin Johnson of Newburgh; three sisters, Helen Maintz and Becky Illers of Cape Girardeau, Rosemary Soehlig of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Charles Schlegel of Cape Girardeau, Larry Schlegel of Chaffee, and four grandchildren.
