Betty Catherine Haas, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to Christian J. and Friedericke Louise Sprenger Bauer.
She and Alvin G. "Bud" Haas were married June 19, 1943, in St. Louis. He died Aug. 16, 1996.
She graduated from Trinity Lutheran School, Cape Girardeau Central High School and received an associate degree from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo.
Betty was a sales clerk for Sears stores in Crestwood, Mo., and Bloomington, Ill., before retiring in 1988. She was a resident of Cape Girardeau most of her life, moving to Crestwood and later to Clinton, Ill., and back to Cape Girardeau after her retirement.
She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, also a member of the PEO B.I. Chapter, River Hills Garden Club in Cape, Southeast Hospital Auxiliary and many bridge clubs.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia D. (Dr. Ron) Lessmann of Cape Girardeau; sons, Mark A. (Kathy) Haas of Jackson, Dr. Chris J. Haas of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, Dr. Brett H. Lessmann, Amy F. (John) Hillin, Julie K. (Travis) Kearbey, Evan D. (Olga Conchos) Haas, Dr. Brian R. (Katie) Haas, David T. Haas; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband; brother, Robert C. Bauer; and a son, Lt. Dennis B. Haas.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating.
Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
