Betty Lou Chasteen, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan, 21, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 6, 1938, in St. Louis to Elmo Wilson and Easter Evelyn France Frease. She and Fletcher Otis Chasteen were married June 3, 1972, in St. Louis.
Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. She was a school teacher for more than 30 years, including teaching gifted students in Perryville, Missouri, and Cape Girardeau.
She was the founding president of Alpha Delta Pi's Delta Nu Chapter at Southeast Missouri State University, and also the founding president of Delta Kappa Gamma's Delta Sigma Chapter at Perryville. She was the first female president of Phi Delta Kappa's SEMO Chapter.
Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband.
Survivors include two sons, John (Melissa) Austin of Sikeston, Missouri, and Kyle (Mary) Chasteen of Pacific, Missouri; three stepdaughters, Beverly Morris of Arnold, Missouri, and Brenda (Mel) Stanton and Judy (David) Disbrow, both of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; sister, Diane Behlke of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Danny Austin, Nick Austin, Gwendolynn Chasteen and Fletcher Chasteen; and five stepgrandchildren, David Diamond, Jeff Diamond, Martha O'Dell, Melissa Mosby and Lisa Benthal.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Darlene Sanders.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri.
