Betty Campbell

Betty J. Campbell of O'Fallon, Mo., went to her heavenly home on her 86th birthday Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010.

She was born in Cape Girardeau to Clara and George Fagan. She married the love of her life, Robert L. Campbell, Oct. 11, 1942. He preceded her in death June 2, 1987.

Betty spent her working career employed by Cape Girardeau city and county governments. She retired in 1987 and began volunteering many hours for both Southeast Missouri Hospital and Saint Francis Medical Center. She also served on the library board for the city of Cape Girardeau and was past president of Washington School PTA.

She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Tri Psi Mothers Sorority for Delta Delta Delta, a former committee woman for the Republican Party, and enjoyed the ladies group for the state High Twelve organization.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Tom Plummer of Jerseyville, Ill., Susan and Dennis Creech of O'Fallon; four grandchildren, Jill Carney and Tommy Plummer of Memphis, Tenn., Kelli Hickenbotham of Glendale, Mo., Scott Creech of Farmington, N.M.; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bess Sheibley of Elkhart, Ind., Elizabeth McFerron of Chaffee, Mo.; and five close nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepfather, John Metz; and brother, John L. Metz.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by private burial in Lorimier Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Lynwood Baptist Church or a charity of one's choice.

The family expresses deepest gratitude to the staff of Delmar Gardens in O'Fallon, especially Wendy Conway and team, for their loving care.
