Betty J. Abernathy, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Robert and Lela Singleton Abernathy. Abernathy was a member of Iona Baptist Church. She had been a housekeeper for the Erlbacher family...

Betty J. Abernathy, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Robert and Lela Singleton Abernathy.

Abernathy was a member of Iona Baptist Church. She had been a housekeeper for the Erlbacher family.

Survivors include two brothers, Elmer Abernathy of Sedgewickville, Mo., Buck Abernathy of Jackson; and two sisters, Grace Craft of Jackson and Alma Abernathy of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Kevin Rhodes and Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Iona Baptist Church.
