JACKSON -- Bessie Adams, 87, Jackson Route 1, died Monday, May 3, 1993, at Jackson Manor. She was born Jan. 11, 1906, in the Leemon community, daughter of Pink and Ollie McNeely Morton. She and Paul Adams were married Aug. 6, 1941. Adams graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1932. She taught school at Bucoda, Cape Girardeau, Chaffee and Fruitland. JACKSON -- Bessie Adams, 87, Jackson Route 1, died Monday, May 3, 1993, at Jackson Manor.

She was born Jan. 11, 1906, in the Leemon community, daughter of Pink and Ollie McNeely Morton. She and Paul Adams were married Aug. 6, 1941.

Adams graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1932. She taught school at Bucoda, Cape Girardeau, Chaffee and Fruitland. She also worked 10 years at the Owl Shanty Cafe in Fruitland.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church at Fruitland many years, where she had been a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was active in its women's auxiliary. She was secretary the past 23 years of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association.

Adams had been a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson since 1982, and was a former member of Byrd's Creek Extension Club.

Survivors include her husband, and a sister, Mattie Stovall of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. R. Charles Grant will officiate, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
