Bertha Mae Estepp Bowman, 98, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2024, at Providence Hospice at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born May 1, 1925, in Owsley County, Kentucky, to Hayes and Louetta Couch Estepp. On July 19, 1946, she married Conley Bowman, also of Owsley County. He preceded her in death.
Bertha was a member of the Lilbourn First Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening flowers, volunteering at the Senior Oaks Center and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, George (Linda) Bowman of Atlanta, Donald (Maryellen) Bowman of Ballwin and Dave Bowman of Sikeston; two daughters, Louise St. John of Jackson and Joyce (Phil) Nysewander of Plainfield, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Bertha was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Estepp and Hayes Estepp Jr.; five sisters, Mary Bennett, Hazel Shouse, Beulah Estepp, Ima Jean Burton and Catherine Estepp; and one grandson, Jason St. John.
Pallbearers will be Brad Bowman, Rex Bowman, Jake Dellinger, Shawn Taylor, Jay Holtrop and Matt Nysewander, and honorary pallbearers, Will Letterman and Trevor Fisher.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Feb. 10, at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Funeral service will follow at noon.
Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Shepherds Hill Cemetery in Booneville, Kentucky
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations may be sent to Providence Hospice at the Lutheran Home, 2825 Bloomfield Road, Cape Girardeau MO 63701 for expansion of the hospice unit.
