Bert Nelson Wells, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at his home.

He was born July 26, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to Jacob Kenneth and Jeanette Leona Wagner Wells. Bert and Margaret Ann Boos were married Sept. 30, 1972, at Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

Bert attended the Jackson school system, then moved to Cape Girardeau, where he graduated from Central High School in 1964. He attended Southeast Missouri State University.

Bert worked for General Sign Co. for seven years, where he specialized in fiberglass design and application.

Bert was a 35-year member of the Missouri Army National Guard. He first started in Jackson with the 1140th Company E, then transferred to 1140th Headquarters, Headquarters Company in Cape Girardeau. There he served as battalion logistics officer and the battalion property book officer. He retired with the rank of chief warrant officer W4.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Wells of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Jesse David Wells of Maplewood, Missouri, and Jacob Lee Wells of Nashville, Tennessee; and one sister, Jeanie (Ron) Layton of Marble Hill, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jack Troy.

There will be a celebration of life from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Saint Francis Hospice.
