Melbert "Bert" Earl Daume, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, at Missouri Veterans Home.

Bert was born May 31, 1929, to Charles H. and Ida Wilhelmina Valle Daume in Tilsit. He and Jobyna Ann Morton were married May 24, 1957, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau.

Bert was baptized and confirmed at St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit. He later became a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the group United Concerned Christians at the church.

Bert was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the Army. He worked for 12 years for Kelso Oil Co., then was employed at Horton Auto Sales and later was self-employed by Daume Sales Co. until his retirement in 1992.

Of the many qualities in Bert's life, he enjoyed cooking for his lodge, making homemade bread and cinnamon rolls.

Bert's memberships included Excelsior Masonic Lodge No. 441 A.F. & A.M. of Jackson, Harold O. Grauel Masonic Lodge No. 672 A.F. & A.M., Cape Girardeau Commandery No. 55 Knight Templar of Cape Girardeau, Wilson Chapter No. 75, Cape Girardeau Council No. 20, all of Cape Girardeau, Moolah Shriners of St. Louis, former member of Cape Girardeau Shrine Club, St. Mark 167 Order of Eastern Star, Order of United Commercial Travelers of America and Travelers Protection Association.

Loving survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jobyna Daume; three children, Barbara (Dale) Begemann of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, Carol (Kevin) Bollinger of Benton, Missouri, and Warren Daume of Marble Hill, Missouri; five grandchildren, Garrett (Ashley) Domnick, Kayla (Spencer) Hobeck, Steven Begeman, Kyle (fiancee Shelby Morton) Bollinger and Cole (girlfriend, Johnee Hargis) Bollinger; four great-grandchildren, Addison Hobeck, Brynleigh Hobeck, Ella Sparkman and Vera Sparkman; and a sister, Ethel (Frank) Hall of Ora Valley, Arizona.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Ruth Meier, Marie Haupt, Allegra Wendel, Margaret Puchbauer, Charles Daume and Edward Daume; and stepmother, Amanda C. Hartman Daume.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Debra Tracy officiating. Burial will follow in the St. James United Church of Christ Cemetery in Tilsit.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the St. James Church of Christ Cemetery or the Shriners Children's Hospital of St. Louis, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
