Bernice Barbara Friese, 93, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 10, 1923, in Wellston, Missouri, to Herman Henry and Olivia Marie Schnarr Sr. She and Oda Albert Friese were married March 20, 1948, at Sedgewickville Lutheran Church in Sedgewickville, Missouri. Oda passed away July 11, 2010.
Bernice worked at a St. Louis department store as a bookkeeper, after graduating from Wellston High School.
After marriage, she became a full-time homemaker and mother of seven children. She also helped Oda in his carpentry business by keeping the books.
Bernice enjoyed working in her vegetable and rose gardens, sewing and crocheting.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Darlene Friese of Oak Ridge and Beverly (Jeff) Johnston of Pocahontas; three sons, Glenn (Margaret) Friese of Daisy, Claude (Martha) Friese of Jackson and Dale Friese of Oak Ridge; eight grandchildren, Chris Johnston, Lauren LaBelle, Sara (Cody) Davidson, Travis (Kelsie) Friese, Austin (Dawn) Friese, Kaylan Friese, Craig Friese and Brian (Shyenne) Friese; a great-grandson, Tatem Johnston; and a great-granddaughter, Klaira Friese.
Also surviving are a sister, Gloria (Charlie) Hanners of Jackson; and two sisters-in-law, Ella Yeager of Oak Ridge and Nancy Friese of Jackson.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oda; a daughter, Harriet Friese; a son, Allan Friese; a brother, Herman Henry Hellman Jr.; and a sister, Marilyn Bangert.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Eisenhauer officiating. Burial will be at Sargents Chapel Lutheran Cemetery near Daisy.
Memorial contributions may be given to Sargents Chapel Cemetery Fund or to the Friese family.
