JACKSON -- Bernard Johnson, 69, of Jackson, died Sunday, June 5, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 12, 1923, at Dyersburg, Tenn., son of Tull G. and Lucy O. Arnold Johnson. He and Betty Jean Hill were married Oct. 4, 1944.
Johnson worked at Hart's Bakery in Sikeston from 1955-69, and then owned and operated Johnson A&W Root Beer here from 1969-86. After retiring in 1986 he worked part time at Landgraf Construction and Leonard's Seed.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post here, and Disabled American Veterans in Cape Girardeau. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kathryn Workman of Portageville, Bernita Leadbetter of St. Charles, Jane Landgraf of Jackson; a brother, A.D. Johnson of Vanduser; two sisters, Thelma Black and Jackie Green of Sikeston, and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-9 p.m. today.
