Bernard J. Halter, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1928, to Benjamin Halter and Clara Meyer Halter. He and Lillian Nanna were married June 1, 1963, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Jan. 17, 1999.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1956.

He worked at Florsheim Shoe Factory for 44 years. He loved to fish, go bowling, and spend time with his family.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include three daughters, Rose Brown of Cape Girardeau, Clarissa (Brian) Wingerter of Perryville, Missouri, and Anna Halter of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Hubert Halter of Perryville, Missouri, and Flavian (Barbara) Halter of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; sister, Mary (Junior) Schwepker-Klipfel of Benton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Joseph Swan, Alex (Ashley) Swan, Brent Halter and Mykeal Medley; and a great-grandchild, Lakely Swan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Joseph Halter; two sisters, Patronilla Lappe and Marcella Kirn; and a grandchild, Eric Wingerter.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be said at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Alexander Sutachan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
