Bernadean Campbell, 77, 1100 N. Henderson, died Friday, Aug. 12, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1916, in West Frankfort, Ill., daughter of Edmond J. and Grace Simmons Avis. She and Dr. Edward D. Campbell Sr. were married March 17, 1937, in St. Charles.

Campbell attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She was employed five years in the billing department at Aloe Surgical Supply Co. in St. Louis.

She and five other wives of medical students formed the Dames Club of St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1937. In later years this organization came into being at other medical schools in the United States.

Campbell was a receptionist in her husband's office for several years. In 1970 she was selected by the officers of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons to attend a luncheon at the White House, hosted by Mrs. Richard Nixon.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School several years. She was a life member of Friends of St. Francis Medical Center and of Cape Girardeau County and Missouri State Medical Society Auxiliaries. She also served as a volunteer many years at St. Francis.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Dr. Edward D. Campbell Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Susan Roper and Sandy Campbell of Cape Girardeau, Sally Weisser of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Eloise Anderson of Clearwater, Fla., Dorthea Ensor of Holiday Island, Ark.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Neil Stein officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
