Barry Davis

Barry D. Davis, 77, of Cape Girardeau -- husband of Nadine Burger Davis and father of Michelle E. Davis of Toledo, Ohio, and Kim (David) Kopp of Kirkwood, Mo. -- died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Dove Health & Rehab of Collierville, Tenn.

Barry was born in Barrington, N.J., to Walter R. and Doris Dowd Davis on Sept. 27, 1934.

Other survivors are his grandsons, Will D. Kopp and Jacob H. Kopp of Kirkwood; brother, Hugh (Pat) Davis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Charles Baldwin of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Baldwin.

The family moved to Cape Girardeau in the summer of 1943 to establish the Davis Electric Co., for which Barry and his father both served as president while operating in Cape Girardeau.

Barry was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He also received a bachelor of science degree in Business from the University of Missouri.

Beside serving as president of Davis Electric after his father, Barry served as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. He was president of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees, was a Junior Chamber International senator, Outstanding Young Man, recipient of the Spark Plug Award, and served as a juvenile officer helping troubled teens. He was an Elk and an honorary member of the VFW.

Barry was an avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist all his life. He was a guide with the Davis Farms Goose Club and a good friend to all who knew him. He also enjoyed photography, taking many pictures of Current River and Missouri Scenic Riverway-area birds and wildlife and his travels to Montana and Canada.

He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. An Elks service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Karen Nothdurft officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
