ANNA, Ill. -- Albert "Barney" Lence, 79, of Anna died Tuesday, Jan 11, 2000, at Jonesboro Health Care center.

He was born June 18, 1920, at Cobden, son of Edward F. and Arena Gregory Lence.

Lence married Ernestine Davis on Jan. 17, 1945 at Coronado, Calif.

He was a retired rural mail carrier for 27 years. He held several leadership positions at the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna including commander, chairman of the scholarship committee, member of the ritual team, and a life member of the post.

Lence was secretary for the Union County Fair Association 40 years, and a past president and member of the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School Board of Education. He was a past secretary of the Anna Moose Lodge 1346.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Greg Lence of Anna; a sister, Ruth Stroehlein of Anna; a granddaughter; and two stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call at Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Private graveside service will be held Friday at Anna Cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post 3455.
