CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Barbara Jean Carter Whitehead, 64, of Charleston died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 25, 1947, in Carmi, Ill., to the late Lowell Ray and Reatha Delores Helsel Carter.
Whitehead was a bookkeeper and office manager for Carter's Phillips 66 Station in Cairo until 1997 and then worked at Erlbacher Gear and Machine in Cape Girardeau until retiring in March 2009.
She first married Harold Bumpous, who preceded her in death in 1996, then to Robert Griggs, who preceded in death in 2001. She and John David Whitehead were married Dec. 16, 2000.
Survivors include her husband; a son, the Rev. Robbie Griggs of St. Louis; a daughter, Lora L. Carter of Cape Girardeau; a stepson; a stepdaughter; a brother; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Potts and the Rev. Glenn Eftink officiating. Interment will be in IOOF Cemetery.
