Barbara Verble

CAIRO, Ill. -- Barbara Ann Verble, 78, of Cairo passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, after a long illness.

She was born May 23, 1931, in Cairo, daughter of Charles and Minnie Grable of Mounds, Ill. She and Raymond Leo Verble were married Dec. 19, 1953.

Ann was an active member of Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church and served on various church boards and committees. She was a longtime member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother 57 years. In earlier years Ann worked as a secretary for Mounds Township High School, and later at Mildred Gates Clothing Store. Ann loved to tend her garden throughout the summer months.

Survivors include her husband, R. Leo Verble of Cairo; a daughter, Debra (DeWayne) Bryant of Cape Girardeau; a son, Timothy L. (Jane) Verble of St. Charles, Mo.; a grandson, Steven H. Verble of St. Charles; two sisters, Charlotte (Seldon) Grant of Olive Branch, Ill., Shirley (Carl) Dishinger of Centralia, Ill.; mother-in-law, Minnie Verble of Pulaski, Ill.; and stepgranddaughter, Ashley Bryant of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Also numerous nieces and nephews, Donna Holman, Laura Feig, Becky Wimberly, Edward Tolbert, Charles Bonifield, Brad Grant; many cousins, great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Clarence Grable; two sisters, Hazel Bonifield and Dorothy Tolbert.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Monday at Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Barkett Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
