CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Barbara Jean Bethune Moxley, 83, of Charleston died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Sikeston, Mo., to the late Charles R. and Hazel Weakley Bethune Sr. A graduate of Sikeston High School, she had lived in Mississippi County most of her life. She was a member of Charleston United Methodist Church and attended Susannah Wesley Sunday school class, and was active in several card clubs.
Barbara and Byron S. Moxley were married May 8, 1949. He preceded her in death Sept. 27, 2004.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Celeste Moxley of Charleston; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and David Patton of Manchester, Mo., and Sally and Max Michael of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Sarah Michael (Bruce) Dovin of Jackson, Shelby Michael (Rick) Alexander of Fayette, Mo., Robert (Katie) Michael of Cape Girardeau, Greg (Carly) Patton of High Ridge, Mo., Jeff (Christy) Patton of Manchester, Mo., Elizabeth Anne Moxley of Charlottesville, Va., and Stephen J. Moxley of Columbia; and 10 great-grandchildren, Catie Dovin, Camille Dovin, Virginia Claire Alexander, Abigail Michael, Lillian Michael, Charles Alexander, Raegan Patton, Delaney Patton, Pierce Patton and Keira Patton.
A brother, Charles R. Bethune Jr., preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at Charleston United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the pastor, the Rev. David Collum, and the Rev. Roger Jespersen of Cape Girardeau officiating. Interment will be in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Greg Patton, Jeff Patton, Robert Michael, Stephen Moxley, Rick Alexander and Bruce Dovin.
