BENTON, Mo. -- Barbara Ann Mason, 75, of Benton went to her heavenly home Wednesday, May 15, 2019, with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born May 7, 1944, in Gorham, Illinois, to Reuben and Buela Newfarmer Ellis. She married James Mason in 1974. He preceded her in death.

She was as a cook at Sands Pancake House in Cape Girardeau. Barb loved growing flowers, getting a good deal when shopping, cooking huge holiday meals for her family and, most of all, being her grandchildren's No. 1 fan.

Barb also had many wonderful friends, and she loved her time spent bowling with them. She was proud to sport her "Red Hat" and be a member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by two sons, Gary (Tara) Mason of Benton and Kevin (Erin) Mason of Marble Hill, Missouri; two daughters, Jennifer Mason of Marble Hill and Tammy Brant of Red Bud, Illinois; five brothers, William Ellis and Lloyd, Gerald, Michael and Gary DeRossett; and five sisters, Jean Smith, Kay Fortner, Linda Davis, Mary Lou Phelps and Betty Allison. Her great joy came to her in the blessings of her eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Carrie and daughter Georgia Grace, Dillon, Ethan and son Oliver Giddeon, Rivers, Raegan and Gunner.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Hubert Ellis, Robert DeRossett and Willard Ellis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Unity Baptist Church in Benton.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Dennis Lowe and Gary DeRossett officiating. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery in Benton.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapels was in charge of arrangements.
