JACKSON -- Funeral service for Barbara Janie McDowell of Jackson will be held at 2 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Lawrence Eatherton will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.

Mrs. McDowell, 74 years old, died Monday, April 15, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Jonesboro, La., daughter of Barbin and Florence Montpelier Wilson.

Mrs. McDowell moved to Missouri from Louisiana in 1937, to Cape in 1947, and to Jackson in 1975. She was a cook at short's Cafe in Sikeston a number of years, and had also done domestic work in private homes. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, Michael McDowell of Jackson; two daughters, Janie Evans of Cape, Wadine Savage of Seneca, S. Carolina; a stepson, Paul McDowell of Chaffee; two stepdaughters, Janet and Diane McDowell of Cape; a brother, Perry Crooks of Alexandria, La.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a friend, Kelly Douwdy.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.
