ZALMA, Mo. -- Barbara Ann Kelly Froman, 83, of Zalma, surrounded by her loving family at home, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018.
Barbara was born on Aug. 4, 1935, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, the daughter of Preston Lee and Macie Irene Bryce Kelly.
After high school, she received a cosmetology license and began working near the Marine Corps base in San Diego. It was there she met the love of her life, Harry Froman Jr. The couple married Feb. 10, 1956, and moved to Puxico, Missouri. They later moved to St. Louis, where their only daughter, Cheryl, was born. They finally settled near Zalma.
Barbara was an active member of Brush Creek Baptist Church until her health began failing. She was a 47-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron of three chapters: Zalma, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and St. Mark's of Cape Girardeau. She was District Deputy Grand Matron twice and served as the Grand Representative of Nova Scotia for two years. Barbara was even able to travel there to participate in their Grand Chapter session, after which she traveled across Canada and visited Niagara Falls.
Barbara enjoyed reading, embroiderying and working crossword puzzles. She was a lady in all aspects of her life and will be sorely missed by many.
Survivors include her husband of more than 62 years, Harry Froman; a daughter, Cheryl Macke of Cape Girardeau; an "adopted" daughter, Deidre Owens of Cape Girardeau; an "adopted" son, Jeffrey Owen of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Ryan Macke of Austin, Texas, Barbara Schroeppel of St. John's Bay, Florida, and Kelly Macke of Springfield, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Preston Macke, Hailey Macke, Makayla Macke, Christian Tyler Schroeppel and Hunter Souron; three brothers, Fred (Linda) Kelly of Oneida, Tennessee, Michael Kelly of Sephyr Hills, Florida, and Robert Kelly of Florida; a sister, Shirley (John) Moncrief of Orlando, Florida; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou (James) Kelly of Jensen Beach, Florida; a brother-in-law, Mitchell (Sandy) Froman of Zalma; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, parent-in-law, three sisters, two brothers and a brother-in-law.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, Missouri.
Funeral will be at noon Monday at Brush Creek Baptist Church near Arab, Missouri. Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery near Bloomfield.
