Barbara Auffenberg

Barbara Anne Coppedge Auffenberg, 82, of Clayton, Mo., was fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Sunday, March 18, 2012.

She was born in 1930 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Barbara was the beloved wife of the late James A. Auffenberg 61 years.

Survivors include five children, James Jr. (Ellen) and their children, Claire (Preston) Foehrkalb, Matthew and Michael; Thomas (Dale) and their children, Ryan (Anna), Greg (Carolyn), Beth and David, Christopher (Patricia) and their son, Christopher Jr., Joseph, Anne Rabenberg and her children, Maggie, Timothy and Ellie; a brother, James W. Coppedge (Mary) of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law, Robert J. Auffenberg; two sisters-in-law, Josephine and Sharon Auffenberg; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, James, she was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Anna M. Coppedge; a brother, Robert E. Coppedge; two brothers-in-law, Francis and Henry Auffenberg; and a sister-in-law, Marquita Auffenberg.

Our family would like to sincerely thank Deb Twellman. We will be forever grateful for her loving care and concern for our mother. We also would like to thank the many doctors and other caregivers, especially Dr. Matthew Orland and Dr. Shiraz Daud.

Barbara attended high school at Marymount in Tarrytown, N.Y., and attended Maryville University in St. Louis. During her life she was a member of Immacolata Catholic Church in Richmond Heights, Mo., and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clayton. Barbara's primary passion in life was being a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed spending time with her relatives and many friends, traveling to her home state of Florida and other places and volunteering.

She was particularly dedicated to organizations serving the developmentally disabled and was a founding board member of St. Louis ARC. She will be dearly missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lupton Chapel, 7233 Delmar Blvd. in University City, Mo.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of The Immacolata, 8900 Clayton Road in Richmond Heights. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis ARC, 1177 N. Warson Road, St. Louis, MO 63132.
