Avanelle Ella Windeknecht, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday Sept. 20, 1997, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born July 8, 1911, in Egypt Mills, the daughter of George Anton and Laura Ida Gerlach Exler. On March 16, 1935, she married Otto Windeknecht in Egypt Mills. He died Jan. 6, 1971.
She provided day care to the children of professionals for about 20 years in Cape Girardeau.
She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Previously, she belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills where she taught primary grade Sunday school for 21 years.
She was a charter member of the Lutheran Home Auxiliary.
She was a quilter.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn Cora of Cape Girardeau, Jo Ann Devenport of Millersville and Louise Callahan of Olive Branch, Miss., and two sisters, Wilma Reimann and Marie McElreath, both of Cape Girardeau.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Dissen officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Egypt Mills.
