August K. "Augie" Sprengel Jr., 82, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 13, 1931, in Cape Girardeau to August K. and Leatha Wallace Sprengel. He and Betty I. Orman were married Oct. 19, 1952, in Cape Girardeau.

Augie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a 1950 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School and served in the Army National Guard more than 27 years. He was employed by Kroger for almost 40 years. Augie loved fishing, hunting, square dancing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Betty I. Sprengel of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Diana Lynne Kembel of Maineville, Ohio; a brother, Archie H. (Mae Sue) Sprengel of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Ruth Langston of Cape Girardeau and Wanda Lee (Clarence) of Brea, Calif.; two grandchildren, Leslie N. (Frank) Morris and Kyle A. Kembel; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella Morris, Finley K. Morris and Frank Levi Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors conducted by the Missouri Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Good Shepherd's Ministry for the Blind and Visually Impaired or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
