PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- August "Ab" Otte, 75, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, entered into eternal rest at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at his home. He died after an eight-month illness with lung cancer.
He was born June 15, 1930 in Perryville, Mo., the son of August John Otte and Emily Magdalene (Roth) Otte. He married Mary Agnes Maloney on June 5, 1956 at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Mary, Mo. This past June, Ab and Mary Agnes celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.
Ab Otte was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, the American Legion and the Holy Name Society. He was an avid hunter, an expert fisherman and a member of the Perryville Bass Casters. On Oct. 29, he received the Bass Casters 2005 Sportsman of the Year award.
Mr. Otte was the owner and operator of Otte's Cleaners until 1972. He worked in sales and service at Pete and Leo's Appliance Warehouse for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mary Beth (Rodney) Richardet of Perryville, Mo., Carol (Kenneth) Weinrich and Christy (Mark) Bock of Jackson, and Michele (Todd) Richardet of Imperial, Mo.; a son, John (Kristin) Otte of Perryville, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Drew Richardet, Emily Unverferth, Laura Unverferth, Cassi Bock, Dominic Richardet, Abby Weinrich, Sara Unverferth, Erica Bock, Stephanie Richardet, Jacqueline Richardet, Chase Richardet, Claudia Otte and Baby Otte due in late November. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary "Mimi" Huber of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and June "Diddy" Angesen of Anaheim, Calif.; and a brother, Richard Otte of St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lee Anne Otte and Anna Lee Hart; a son, Stephen Otte; and a grandson, Travis Clements.
Friends may call at the Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville, Mo., from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. Parish prayers with the Knights of Columbus will be held at 7 p.m., with American Legion service to follow. Visitation will continue at 6:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Firday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Kevin P. Fausz, CM, will officiate, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery with graveside military honors courtesy of the American Legion Post 133.
He will be missed not only by members of his family and relatives but by his many friends that he inspired throughout his life.
