GRAY SUMMIT, Mo., -- August "Bud" Holthaus, 88, of Gray Summit passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Gray Summit, son of August J. and Otillie Roemer Holthaus. He and Laurene Bartold were married May 26, 1951, in Manchester, Mo. She died Nov. 17, 2008...

GRAY SUMMIT, Mo., -- August "Bud" Holthaus, 88, of Gray Summit passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at his home.

He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Gray Summit, son of August J. and Otillie Roemer Holthaus. He and Laurene Bartold were married May 26, 1951, in Manchester, Mo. She died Nov. 17, 2008.

Holthaus received his education from Washington High School and Ranken Tech. He was a member of Gray Summit Methodist Church, Tri-County Rose Society, Meramec Valley Historical Society, Gray Summit Lions Club, Gray Summit Masonic Lodge 173, Boles Fire Department more than 60 years, chairman of Boles Fire Department, American Legion and Augusta Wood Workers. He was owner of Cedar Lane Cabinet Shop.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura Lee Taylor and husband Allen of Cape Girardeau, Darlene Meyer and husband Stephen of O'Fallon, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Louise Wobus of Concordia, Mo.; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Helen Rashcoe and Lucille Cook; and a grandson, Christopher Meyer.

The funeral was held March 11 at Gray Summit Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sue Biggerstaff officiating. Burial was in Pacific City Cemetery.

Nieburg-Vitt, Thiebes Funeral Home in Pacific, Mo., was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Gray Summit Methodist Church.
