BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Arthur William Thilenius, 92, died on Sunday, July 17, 1994, at the Brookview Manor Nursing Home. He was born April 28, 1902, in Cape Girardeau. BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Arthur William Thilenius, 92, died on Sunday, July 17, 1994, at the Brookview Manor Nursing Home.

He was born April 28, 1902, in Cape Girardeau. He is the son of Emily M. and Emma K. Dittlinger Thilenius.

He received his education in Cape Girardeau. Thileneus married Jessie A. Hubbard on March 10, 1925, in Chaffee.

He operated the Cape Bottling Company until 1956. From 1956 until his retirement in 1969, he was the bookkeeper for McDonald Ready-Mix in Cape.

He and his wife moved from Cape Girardeau to Rolla in 1980. In 1984 they moved to Brookings, S.D.

He was a member and past deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. He was a charter member and served on the board of directors of the Cape Girardeau Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a past president of Travelers Protective Association. Thilenius also organized the Cape Girardeau County Bowling Association in 1937 and served as secretary-treasurer for five years. He also assisted his wife in several historical projects.

Arthur is survived by one daughter, Ferne Gaarder of Alpine, Calif. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jessie on Nov. 6, 1993, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings, S.D. with the Rev. Larry Boutelle presiding. Burial will be at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Brookings.

Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Rude's Funeral Home.
