Arthur Joseph Schulte Sr., 75, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, July 4, 2005, at St. Mary's Health center.

He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Jefferson City, son of J. Henry and Leona Regina Kerperin Schulte. He and Evangeline Ruth Burridge were married Dec. 10, 1955, in Kansas City, Mo.

Schulte was employed with L.M. Berry Co. several years, and later with Jefferson City Park Board. He was employed with Missouri Department of Corrections from 1960 until retiring in 1991, having served at MSP Diagnostic Center, Moberly Corrections Center, Algoa Reformatory, St. Mary's Honor Center, Tipton Correctional Center, and Fulton Diagnostic Center.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Missouri Historical Society, Cole County and Osage County Historical Societies, Outward Bound Program, and a volunteer with Meals-on-Wheels.

Schulte was an air traffic controller with the U.S. Navy at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va., from 1947 to 1951.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Laura Scott of Fulton, Mo., Juliana Schulte of Sedalia, Mo., Jennifer Polys of Jefferson City; two sons, John Schulte III of Jefferson City, Arthur Schulte Jr. of Apopka, Fla.; four sisters, Margaret Brethorst, Jeannette Hurley and Emily Roseman, all of St. Louis, Mary Elizabeth "Cissy" Neumeyer of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City from 4 to 8 p.m. today. A prayer service will be held at 7:30.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
