SIKESTON -- Arthur T. "Sarge" LaVigne, 80, of Sikeston died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at his home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1917, at Portage, Wis., son of Frank Sylvester and Olive Leona Gray LaVigne.

He married Louis Nickens LaGrand on Dec. 1, 1951.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army in World War II. He was a master sergeant first class and retired after 20 years of U.S. Army Service in February 1957. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Sikeston and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Sikeston.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Donna Herritz of Reedsburg, Wis.; two stepsons, Robert LaGrand Sr. of Ironton and William L. LaGrand of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three brothers, Francis and Bob LaVigne, both of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and George LaVigne of Portage; two sisters, Florence Miller and Margie Frank, both of Portage; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marvin Butrum officiating. Burial will follow at Dogwood Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Leonard Wood.
