SCOTT CITY -- Arlie William Smith Sr., 86, of Scott City, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 30, 1907, at Fornfelt, son of Grover Martin and Lois Elizabeth Williams Smith. He and Viola Mowery were married Dec. 24, 1929, in Scott City.
Smith had been a brakeman with Cotton Belt Railroad in Scott City. He had been a member of Broadway Methodist Church 74 years, treasurer of its Men's Club 11 years, and member of United Transportation Union.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Arlie Smith Jr. of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Mary Hale and Gladys Slinkard of Scott City, June Peetz of Cape Girardeau, Ruth Brindley of Mission Viejo, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James King officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
