CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Arlene Mae Cotner, 85, of Chaffee passed away Monday, April 13, 2009.
She was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Cape Girardeau, to the late Alfred and Cora Faust Jones. Arlene married J.T. Cotner Feb. 20, 1942, at Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Cotner graduated from Central High School in 1941. After graduation she was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. While her husband was in the military from 1942 to 1946, she worked in post exchanges at San Marcos Navigation Air Force Base in San Marcos, Texas, and Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill. She also worked at The Signal Newspaper in Chaffee and in the Scott County clerk's office in Benton, Mo.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chaffee. She was active in United Methodist Women and was a past board member and treasurer of the church.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn (Jan) Cotner of Jackson, Larry Cotner of Miami; a brother, Kenneth Jones of Fairfield, Calif.; two granddaughters, Alysha Sauer of Festus, Mo., Andrea Cotner of Cape Girardeau; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alfred Jones.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Chaffee, with the Rev. Richard Combs and the Rev. Frank Husted assisting. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
