CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for Ardell Straughter of Charleston will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. J.L. Posey will officiate, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Straughter, 71, died Saturday, May 29, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Dundee, Miss., daughter of Efon and Martha Walker. She married Alex Straughter, who preceded her in death.

Straughter was a member of Mercy Seat Church, served on the Mothers Board, and was a member of the Senior Choir.

Survivors include four sons, Sherwood Cross and Donnie Straughter of Charleston, Herman Straughter of East Prairie, Marshall Straughter of Aurora, Ill.; seven daughters, Margaret Hassel and Clara Johnson of St. Louis, Ruth Sanford, Wilma Straughter, Georgia Straughter and Beverly Jones of Charleston, Ava Hough of Irwin, Calif.; a brother, Johnny Walker of St. Louis; a sister, Mildred Beamon of St. Louis; 49 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son.
