JACKSON -- Anthony "Tony" Catani, 90, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 28, 1901, in Milan, Italy, son of Joseph and Caroline Ruggioli Catani. He and Severina Biotti were married April 27, 1922, in Herrin, Ill. She died Feb. 22, 1974.
Catani had worked in coal mines in Southern Illinois since he was 14, retiring in 1961 from Old Ben No. 14. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the Golden Eagles, and the former Rome Club, all in Herrin, and member of United Mine Workers. He moved to Jackson in March 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Anita Longman of Jackson; two sisters, Rose Ferrario of St. Louis, Frances Gioia of Texas; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The Rev. Ray Schultz will officiate, with burial in San Carlo Cemetery at Herrin.
Friends may call at the funeral lhome from 6-9 tonight. The rosary will be at 7.
