Ann Chissom Shelton, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born May 16, 1931, in Daviess County, Ky., daughter of Hobart and Helen Yeiser Chissom. She and John Shelton were married June 16, 1954, in Owensboro, Ky.

Ann was a graduate of Murray State University, a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and its choir, Southeast Missouri State University Faculty Wives, PEO, Meals On Wheels, and was a tour director for the Cape Convention and Visitors Bureau.

She taught elementary music in Daviess County and at Nell Holcomb. She was an accomplished pianist who gave private lessons and taught with the Music Academy at Southeast University.

Ann never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her deep commitment to family, faith and friends.

She is survived by her husband, John Shelton of Cape Girardeau; a son, Brian Shelton and wife Penny of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Suzanne Shelton and husband Mike Sump of Carrollton, Texas, Elizabeth Shelton of Smyrna, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Luke and Gabriel Shelton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers James and Tandy Chissom.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Centenary United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating.

The family requests memorials to Centenary United Methodist Church, Parkinson Research Foundation, or Chateau Foundation.
