Anita R. Greer, 95, of Joliet, Ill., died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home.
She was born in Oran, Mo.
Greer had been a Joliet resident since 1955. She was a former owner/operator of Anita's Dry Cleaning in St. Louis and formerly was a riverboat cook. Prior to retirement she was a nanny for Mr. and Mrs. Sam Andreano.
Survivors include two children, Robert (Darlene) Williams of Cape Girardeau and Catherine (John) Zivec of Joliet; a special grandson, Richard L. (Kelly Glenn) Greer of Crest Hill, Ill., whom she helped raise; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her canine companion, Ozzy, and feline friend, Harley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Greer, in 1993.
A special thank you to her in-home caregivers, Dorothy Edmond and Joyce Cummings, for all their loving and compassionate care, and a sincere thank you to the staff of Sunny Hill Nursing Home and Joliet Area Community Hospice.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Joliet.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Friends of Sunny Hill, the Alzheimer's Association or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
