On May 18, 2007, Andrew J. "Junior" Seyer II, 71, of Oak Ridge was called home by our heavenly father after fighting a nearly one-year battle with cancer. He was born on April 1, 1936, in Oak Ridge to Andrew and Colletta Westrich Seyer.
He and Bertha Meyer were married July 2, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Apple Creek, Mo.
Andrew was a self-employed farmer in the Oak Ridge area for all his life. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1952 to 1960. He was a former president of the Oak Ridge School Board, a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek. Andrew will be remembered, by most, as being a witty and comical auctioneer for more than 40 years as an owner/operator of Seyer Auction Co.
Andrew enjoyed breakfast with his friends at the coffee shop, turkey and deer hunting, farming with his John Deere tractors and watching the livestock and crops grow. He also enjoyed being with his grandchildren and watching them grow from children to young adults. He made many friends in Houston, where he received his cancer treatments. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Loving survivors include his wife, Bertha; three sons, Andrew "Sonny" (Lisa A.) Seyer III and children Jessica, Kaycie and Rachel of Oak Ridge, James (Lisa L.) Seyer and children Hunter and Hayden of Oak Ridge, Chester (Kristi) Seyer and children Ethan, Chelsea and Taylor of Oak Ridge; three daughters, Theresa Seyer and Mary Seyer of Oak Ridge, Verla (Bob) Becnel and children Madison and Reagan of Imperial, Mo.
Also surviving are two brothers, Lester (Semina) Seyer of Oak Ridge, Charles (Millie) Seyer of Jackson; three sisters, Viola Kirchdoerfer of Jackson, Joann (Raymond) Clements of Jackson and Rose Pair of Cape Girardeau; a brother-in-law, Elmer Clements of Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Rita Seyer of Dexter, Mo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Seyer; two sisters, Lavada Clements and Bernice Koehler; and an infant brother, Chester Seyer.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek with the Rev. Tony Dattilo officiating. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery in Oak Ridge.
Andrew was a longtime supporter of the Oak Ridge school system, and a scholarship fund has been established in his honor. Memorials may also be made to the American Cancer Society.
