Ama Elizabeth Young, 90, went to her heavenly home Sunday, July 27, 2008, at her home in Wood River, Ill.
She was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Egypt Mills, to Amos and Bertha Ervin Hargis. She married Howard V. Young Feb. 15, 1935, in Benton, Mo. Howard passed away Jan. 20, 1984.
Ama was formerly of Cape Girardeau. She was employed many years by Teamsters Local 525 in Alton, Ill.
Ama is survived by a nephew whom she raised and was her caregiver for many years, Scott Stroder of Wood River; a sister, Pat Perry of Sun City West, Ariz.; a brother, Bart (Roslyn) Hargis of Phoenix; a niece, Marcia (Bill) Hane of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; nephews John (Peggy) Altemueller of Festus, Mo., Kenneth (Brandi) Hargis-Knight of Fargo, Okla., Edward (Dana) Hargis of Virginia, John Hargis of Alton; a niece, Kathy (Gary) Gray of Hot Springs, Ark.; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Chaplain Ralph McGlown officiating. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Ill.
