Alvin S. Wiley, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Cape Girardeau County, son of James and Eugie Kinder Wiley. He and Betty Hyslip Blumenberg were married April 17, 1971, in St. Louis.
Wiley lived in St. Louis from the 1940s until moving to Cape Girardeau in 1987. He was a maintenance supervisor 26 years with Ford Motor Co. in Hazelwood, Mo. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Sept. 9, 1944, to Feb. 21, 1946, attaining the rank of chief warrant officer. He served in the European Theater of Operations and received the Victory Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and two overseas bars. He also served in Missouri National Guard.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Wiley of St. Charles, Mo., Jeff Wiley of Festus, Mo.; three daughters, Sue Gray of state of New York, Cindy Marshall of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Candace Minth of Verden, Ill.; two stepsons, Charlie "Butch" Blumenberg of Dexter, Mo., Alvin Blumenberg of House Springs, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Sydonia Reed of St. Louis; a brother, Jim Wiley of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Lois Smith of Cape Girardeau; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers, and three sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Revs. Donny Ford and Lewis Hyslip will officiate. Burial will be in Hobbs Chapel Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
