Alvin F. Hampton, 80, of Dekalb, Ill., died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Pascala, Mo., son of George and Esther Brush Hampton. He married Jean Byrd July 2, 1944, in Blytheville, Ark. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in seven days.
Alvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1944 to 1951. He was stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas, Germany and Austria. He was a truck driver and shipping clerk for Dekalb Forge over 38 years.
Alvin was a member of Dekalb VFW and the American Legion. He loved fishing, camping and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Dekalb; five sons, Jerry (Betty) Hampton of Cape Girardeau, Mike Hampton of Sycamore, Ill., Rick Hampton of Columbus, Ohio, Tom (Karen) Hampton of Sunnyvale, Calif., and David (Lori) Hampton of Sycamore; a daughter, Penny (John) Dorenbos of Rock Falls, Ill.; six granddaughters; eight grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Pauline Vivrett of Eureka, Mo., Inez Cossey of Hillsboro, Mo., Betty Daniels of Milan, Ill.; three brothers, Wilburn (Estelle) Hampton of St. Louis, William (Cheryl) Hampton of Flora, Ill., James Hampton of Ozark, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra; a son, Larry; five grandchildren, and a sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 Dekalb Avenue, sycamore, Ill., 60178. For information call 815-895-2833.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Stephen Persson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Park Cemetery in Dekalb.
