DEXTER -- Funeral service for Alvin Barnes of Dexter will be held at 11 a.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter. The Rev. Henry Jordan will officiate, with burial in Bloomfield Cemetery at Bloomfield.
Barnes, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 22, 1911, in Formosa, Ark., son of George Washington and Tennessee Keck Barnes. He and Amy Dawson were married April 22, 1935.
Barnes was a retired farmer, and attended the Assembly of God Church. He moved to Dexter 16 years ago from near Sikeston.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wesley Barnes of Sikeston, David Barnes of Houston, Texas; four daughters, Ruby Billingsley and Shirley Bennett of Houston, Texas, Doris Baessler of St. Louis, Linda Kizer of Sikeston; two brothers, Henry and Jesse Barnes of Bernie; three sisters, Clara Taylor of Louisville, Ky., Marcel Cooper of Chicago, Beatrice Malone of Sikeston; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, daughter and two brothers.
