Alva Nelle Johnson, 90, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Cairo, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Chateau Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Tamms, Illinois, to Dean and Mable Forsythe Adams.
Alva was a longtime member and organist of First Presbyterian Church in Cairo, and for many years was secretary to Cairo superintendent of schools.
She is survived by a son, Scott Johnson of Hendersonville, North Carolina; daughter, Susan Johnson of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one granddaughter and one great-grandson; sisters, Carol Jean Thomas of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Inez Donnigan of Carbondale, Illinois; brother, Lynn Dean Adams of Tucson, Arizona; and nieces and nephews.
Alva was preceded in death by her parents and husband, George F. Johnson.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with Pastor Ellen Gurnon officiating.
Private burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Cairo Customs House, P.O. Box 151, Cairo, IL 62914.
