Funeral for Alton Sutter of Cape Girardeau will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Mo. The Revs. Wesley Wright and Wiley McGhee will officiate. Burial will be in Puxico Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of Butler County.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday. Veterans of Foreign Wars service will be at 5, followed by a Masonic service.
Sutter, 78, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Chateau Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 15, 1923, at Puxico, son of Alfred and Addie Rucker Sutter. He and Carrie Ward were married May 5, 1947.
Sutter owned and operated Puxico Mercantile many years. He served on the Puxico Board of Aldermen for two terms.
He was a member and deacon of First Christian Church in Puxico, charter member and past officer of Puxico Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, charter member of VFW Post 7822, and was a former scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 370.
Sutter moved to Cape Girardeau in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen Sutter of Puxico, Douglas Sutter of Erie, Pa.; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, and two sisters.
