JACKSON -- Alphonse H. Stoverink, 79, of Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 30, 1918, at Leopold, son of Anthony J. and Rose VanDoren Stoverink. He and Irene Thiele were married March 18, 1943, at Leopold.

Stoverink was employed at Procter & Gamble, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, charter member of Jackson Knights of Columbus Council 6405, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 and Pearl Harbor Survivors.

Stoverink served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, James Stoverink of Jackson, Daniel Stoverink of St. Charles, David Stoverink of Carthage, Ill., Michael Stoverink of Staunton, Ill., Alvin Stoverink of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Carol Dirnberger of Oran, Mary Seiler of Leopold, Theresa Kern and Linda Essner, both of New Hamburg, and Rita Koeppel of Kelso.

Also surviving are three sisters, Dina Wubker, Beatrice Landewee and Celestine Eeftink, all of Leopold; a brother, Lawrence Stoverink of Leopold; 39 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with parish prayers at 7 and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, with Msgr. Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
