JACKSON -- Alonzo Tarr, 73, died at his home at Jackson Route 4 on Thursday, Aug. 5, 1993. He was born Aug. 15, 1919 in Ashley, Ill. to Frank Tarr and Virginia Maize Tarr. On March 23, 1943, he married Mary Hines. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters: Rosemary Gable of Marble Hill and Ronda Ertman of Jackson Route 4; one brother, Ernest Tarr of Collinsville, Ill.; two sisters, Francis Newcomb and Mary Tarr, both of Ashley, Ill., six grandchildren and four great grandchildren...

JACKSON -- Alonzo Tarr, 73, died at his home at Jackson Route 4 on Thursday, Aug. 5, 1993.

He was born Aug. 15, 1919 in Ashley, Ill. to Frank Tarr and Virginia Maize Tarr.

On March 23, 1943, he married Mary Hines. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Rosemary Gable of Marble Hill and Ronda Ertman of Jackson Route 4; one brother, Ernest Tarr of Collinsville, Ill.; two sisters, Francis Newcomb and Mary Tarr, both of Ashley, Ill., six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and two sisters.

Tarr moved to his farm, which is located at Hines Landing, in 1969 from Freeburg, Ill., where he had worked for the Donnley Book Binding Company for 30 years.

He also worked for P&G from 1969 until he retired in 1984.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was a medical assistant. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in rural Jackson for the past 23 years.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Slatton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
