SIKESTON, Mo. -- Alma Mayfield, 93, of St. Louis, formerly of Sikeston, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Delmar Gardens in St. Louis. She was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Ben H. and Nellie Bernice Bess Hinkle. She and Martin D. Mayfield were married Oct. 10, 1936. He died July 28, 1987...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Alma Mayfield, 93, of St. Louis, formerly of Sikeston, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Delmar Gardens in St. Louis.

She was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Ben H. and Nellie Bernice Bess Hinkle. She and Martin D. Mayfield were married Oct. 10, 1936. He died July 28, 1987.

Mayfield was a teacher more than 35 years with Scott County School District. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include a daughter, Alma Harkey of St. Louis; two sisters, Virginia Elliott of Bellevue, Wash., Velma Nanna of Fredericktown, Mo.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jonathan Cooney officiating. Burial will be in Old Morley Cemetery at Morley, Mo.
