GORDONVILLE -- Alma M. Birk, 86, of Gordonville died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 17, 1911, at Tilsit, daughter of William H. and Anna Best Fluegge. She and Edwin Birk were married Feb. 4, 1934.
Prior to marriage she worked at International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau. She and her husband lived and farmed at Charleston from 1934-65, then moved to Gordonville where they had also farmed.
She has been a member of Christ Lutheran Church since 1965. She is also a member of the Ladies Aid at the church, and Gordonville Homemakers Club.
Birk was a former member of Scott County Farm Bureau Board, and was a 4-H leader at Charleston.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Charles Birk of Gordonville, Roy Birk of Charleston, Larry Birk of Gravois Mills, David Birk of Lenexa, Kan.; two daughters, Ellen Lorberg and Joyce Clark of Gordonville; a brother, Marvin Fluegge of St. Charles; two sisters, Lydia Sievers of Cape Girardeau, Elda Bray of DeSoto; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today, and Friday at Christ Lutheran Church after 10:30 a.m.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. D. Lee Cullen Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
