JONESBORO, Ill. -- Allen E. "Gene" Lyerla, 86, of Alto Pass, died Monday, Aug. 7, 1995, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Alto Pass, son of Milas O. and Nora Lea Edmonds Lyerla. He and Myrtle Marie Gray were married Jan. 11, 1933, in Benton. She died Feb. 3, 1990...

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Allen E. "Gene" Lyerla, 86, of Alto Pass, died Monday, Aug. 7, 1995, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

He was born Dec. 25, 1908, in Alto Pass, son of Milas O. and Nora Lea Edmonds Lyerla. He and Myrtle Marie Gray were married Jan. 11, 1933, in Benton. She died Feb. 3, 1990.

Lyerla worked on a ranch in Wyoming and later was a carpenter. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Carpenters Local, and Franklin County Beagle Club.

Survivors include a son, Bob Lyerla of Jonesboro; a daughter, Mona Sides of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Vic Lyerla of Murphysboro, Collin Lyerla of Jonesboro; two sisters, Geneva Williams and Kathryn Rhamey of Muncie, Ind.; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Harner officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery, with graveside rites by Anna VFW Post 3455.
